Tulum is quite a trendy destination, and although there’s no scarcity of high-end restaurants, there are also tons of delicious affordable places to grab a bite. Here are the best places to dine in Tulum on a budget!
Taqueria Honorio
Rated the #1 place to get tacos in Tulum, and for a good reason! The tacos here are incredible and only 22 mxn each, they also serve homemade agua fresca for 30 mxn.
Taqueria Honorio is open from 6:00 am-3:00 pm or whenever they sell out, which they always do. We got there around 12:30 and they were already out of three different kinds of tacos, and all but three flavours of agua fresca.
El Sudaca
Okay, this restaurant isn’t actually Mexican, El Sudaca serves Argentinian food. Their empanadas are amazing and are only 55-60 mxn each. The staff was also amazing, our server was from Argentina and she was so sweet.
Their outdoor patio was such a beautiful space, decorate with plants and twinkly lights.
Burrito Amor
This is another super popular place in Centro, their delicious and filling burritos come wrapped in banana leaves and average around 100 mxn each. We went to Burrito Amor for dinner after a day of visiting cenotes and split the vegetarian and the chicken burritos.
They have bike racks outside which was super convenient as most places don’t.
Matcha Mama
An Instagram famous location that serves smoothies and smoothie bowls. They’re on the higher side of budget-friendly at 220 mxn for an açai bowl, but they’re worth it- they come with so much fruit and other toppings. I’d been craving a smoothie all week and this was exactly what I needed.
Matcha Mama actually has two locations, one in Centro and another in Zona Hotelera- if you’re looking for the more insta-worthy of the two, it’s the one in Zona Hotelera.
Suculenta
Located on a quiet side street in Tulum Centro, Suculenta is a family owned restaurant that specializes in delicious and fresh vegan tamales for only 55 mxn each. They do have other items on the menu as well, which is entirely vegan.
Churros La Lupita
The best place for churros in Tulum, Churros La Lupita is located just off the main road in Centro and sells 4 churros for 30 mxn.
*bonus* Parque dos aguas
If you’re looking for some snacky street food, head to Parque Dos Aguas. In the evening, tons of street food vendors set up along the road behind the park. You’ll find elote, esquites and elotitos, marquesitas, churros, and of course, tacos.
